Access to reliable and near real-time information on water quality, including on the location and concentration
of algae blooms and sediment matter content, is critical to proactively manage
risks and mitigate impacts from water related incidents such as algal blooms,
red tides and sediment plumes.
Satellite-based remote
sensing technology is the only practical and economical method to detect the
quality of marine environments, as well as remote and large inland waters,
where frequent in situ sampling is impossible.
We have a legacy of
providing first class water quality assessments using advanced satellite image analysis
and state-of-the-art algorithms to produce accurate and seamless maps on parameters
such as chlorophyll concentrations (a direct proxy phytoplankton biomass) and
suspended matter content. These maps enable assessments of the current and
historic state of the water quality and its variability in space and time,
which is key for impact assessments, early warnings, environmental monitoring, water
resource management as well as SDG indicator reporting.
